Amritsar, just like many other cities in India, experiences extreme temperatures. November to March
The best time to visit Amritsar is between the months of November and March. During this time, the weather is quite pleasant and provides the best opportunities for sightseeing and exploration. It should be noted, however, that sometimes temperatures can touch minus 4 degrees Celsius.
Amritsar experiences extreme temperatures in both winters and summers. The temperatures drop down in January and hover around 5°C while the peak summer months of May and June take the temperature to as high as 40°C. Therefore, September to December and February to March is the best time to visit Amritsar as the weather remains pleasant and suitable for sightseeing. July and August are peak monsoon months when most of the cityscape is covered by lush greenery. The temperature remains moderate/ warm but is quite humid. One can choose to avoid the monsoons as it could get a little inconvenient for sightseeing.

Winter begins in November and lasts in March. The season is usually extremely chilly, and the mercury level can drop as low as 4°C. Otherwise, the maximum temperature hovers around 21°C. December and January are the coldest months in Amritsar. The day-time temperature is perfect for exploring all the attractions in Amritsar like Golden Temple, the Jallianwala Bagh, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Museum, Durgiana Temple, Akal Takht or to go on an Amritsar Heritage Walk. If tourists are visiting this time around, they may want to witness one or all of the important festivals celebrated in the city. There’s Diwali in November. Ram Tirth Fair is celebrated a couple of weeks after Diwali where one can catch some good cultural and entertainment programs. January brings Basant Panchami and Lohri. The fair at Chheharta Sahib Gurudwara is a favourite attraction during Basant Panchami. The traditional and authentic celebration of Lohri must not be missed while visiting Amritsar in mid-January.
